Frequently Asked Questions
💭How much does a Maine Coon kitten cost in our country?
The price of a pet kitten depends on many things, including the purpose of the purchase, the kitten's color/pattern, bloodline, personality, etc.
This price ranges between 300-400 thousand HUF (around 1000 EUR), but it is worth asking about the exact price of a kitten through one of the contact details, as there may be a difference between the prices of litters and kittens within the litter.
If you would like to have your kitten delivered to your home or request a passport for your kitten, these fees will of course be added to the basic price and increase it.
The price shown here is the price of a pet kitten, if you were buying for breeding purposes, it will double the price of a pet kitten. If you want to buy a cat for breeding purposes, ask the breeder for more information about the purchase and breeding conditions of the cat you want to buy for breeding purposes!
💭Why does a pet Maine Coon kitten cost so much?
Many people don't even think about how much attention and money a cattery has to pay. The work doesn't start when the kitten is born, but when a breeding animal comes to me. From then on, I have to work on the kitten continuously to ensure that it gets the right food, love, etc. After all, only happy, healthy breeding parents can produce balanced, happy, healthy kittens.
- From the moment the kittens are born, they are under 24-hour supervision. If I can't be home, the rest of my family members, who are also professionals in the profession, take care of them. This is necessary so that if anything goes wrong (e.g. the mother, who weighs almost 6 kilos, lays down on the few 100 gram babies), we can take immediate action. Therefore, the work of the breeder behind the kittens and the high-quality housing conditions cannot be neglected.
- Our cats are regularly seen by a veterinarian so that we can only release healthy babies from our hands, which is also not cheap. (vaccination, chip, worming, etc.) This also includes the fee for the results of the already genetically tested parents, as well as their medical care.
- They receive quality food, Royal Canin dry food, canned food with a 90+% meat content, vitamins, and occasionally cooked, unseasoned food, which supports the digestion of cats.
- Everyday items and consumables, including toys, litter, basic care tools, disinfectant, etc.
- Our kittens always receive a starter package when they move, the fee for which is also included in the purchase price. What is in the starter package?
- The fee for issuing the pedigree.
💭Is there any possibility of a discount on the price?
The price of the kitten is fixed and non-negotiable. As described above, the price of the kitten was determined by calculating these costs. Kittens from a normal breeder will only be given to the owner with a contract, invoice, vaccination record, and after neutering they will receive a pedigree.
It is possible to pay in installments: in 3 installments.
💭How can I have a kitten like that?
1. First, think carefully about whether you really want to embark on such a big adventure! Talk to your family, loved ones, and roommates.
2. Personally, I like to get to know future owners, so I prefer personal/telephone conversations, so first of all, find one of my contacts! Since the owner also knows everything about the breeder, I think it is appropriate if I also want to get to know the future owner and see the kitten's future home in the form of some photos/videos.
3. If we like each other, I will send you the contract for the kitten by e-mail. You should read this carefully, and if you have any questions, we will discuss them. If you accept the contract, you must respond by e-mail according to the appropriate parameters. (in the case of a personal handover, the original copy will be signed by both parties)
4. According to the contract, the deposit must be received within the appropriate time. Then the kitten's status will change from AVAILABLE to BOOKED, so no one else can buy it. IT IS IMPORTANT to know that if the owner decides not to want the kitten, the deposit will NOT be refunded!
5. Of course, I will send you the information included in the starter package until the handover day, and based on that you can learn everything about the kittens, what to expect, you can also find out about Maine Coons in general, and what you need to get until the new family member arrives. And of course, I will bombard you with the cutest pictures and videos! :)
6. The remaining amount must be paid on the day of the handover. Within the framework of the personal meeting, after signing the contract, I will issue you an invoice for the purchase, which I will send by e-mail, and the kitten will then be YOURS! (in case of an installment payment contract: I will send the invoice after the last installment is paid, so from then on the kitten will be your property)
💭Why is neutering mandatory?
This is primarily for serious health and welfare reasons:
- ♀️ In the case of females: if a female cat regularly ovulates without fertilization, it can lead to serious hormonal disorders and purulent inflammation of the uterus (pyometra). This is an extremely painful condition and can be fatal without immediate surgery. Early neutering also drastically reduces the risk of developing breast cancer.
- ♂️ In the case of males: the testicles can become inflamed and lead to behavioral and psychological problems. Unneutered males live in constant stress due to the constant urge to mate, which can lead to territorial marking (with strong-smelling urine), escape attempts and aggression. Neutering also prevents the development of testicular tumors and prostate problems.
Neutering not only ensures the kitten's health and a longer, calmer life, but also guarantees that in the case of a kitten purchased for pet purposes, neutering also serves to protect the breeder's genetic work and prevent unwanted litters/breeding!
💭Why is it so important for a kitten to have a pedigree?
The pedigree is not just a paper or a "luxury item", but the only official guarantee of responsible breeding and the health of the cat, as well as a strong action against backyard cat breeders, because they usually advertise their animals without a pedigree!
If a cat does not have a pedigree, it is legally and genetically considered a mixed cat - regardless of how similar it is to a given breed. If someone advertises a "purebred" animal without a pedigree at a significantly lower price (in Hungary, most regular breeders offer their animals for over 250 thousand HUF, so for amounts below this, we must consider our decision carefully!) it is most likely not a true purebred kitten, and unfortunately they did not save on paper, but on the health screening of the parents, quality nutrition and housing conditions! Furthermore, the fee for issuing a pedigree is only a few thousand HUF (around 15 EUR), which does not justify the difference of about 100+ thousand HUF compared to the prices of regular breeders.
With such a kitten, the lack of a pedigree or the question of its purity is the least of the problems, the bigger problem is whether it has received the proper upbringing, love, food, and necessary medical care/screening, and whether the living conditions are appropriate.
If you want a kitten, always consider that the seller must present papers and show you the place where the kitten currently lives!
If you absolutely want a Maine Coon kitten, but you currently do not have the financial background for it, then I recommend that you save up for the kitten rather than give it up! If you still do not want to spend so much money on a Maine Coon, then the best solution is to adopt a stray cat from the shelter, but do not support the work of backyard cat breeders in any way, because what they do is immoral and in many cases animal cruelty!
All of my kittens, without exception, move to their new homes with a pedigree, contract and health guarantee. I do not sell without a pedigree!
💭For breeding or pet? What does this mean?
Many people don't know what the difference is between the two purchase intentions.
- In the case of animals purchased for breeding purposes: the kitten is not obliged to be neutered, HOWEVER, I only give breeding animals to those who have a registered breeding, can be verified, which can be proven with official papers, and are invoiceable.
- In the case of cats purchased for pet purposes: the kitten is obliged to be neutered by the date specified in the contract, for health, welfare and other reasons mentioned in the neutering question. The breeder will then ask you to show the document proving the neutering in some form, after which the pedigree will be sent by post.
💭Female or male? Which one should I choose?
When choosing between a female and a male cat, the decision mostly depends on the temperament and lifestyle you are looking for. While every cat is a unique personality, there are some general differences between the two sexes.
Main differences between the sexes:
♂️ Male cats:
- Personality: They are generally more outgoing, cuddly, and outgoing. They often remain "eternal puppies" and are very playful and demanding as adults.
- Build: They are larger, stockier, and have a wider face.
- Surgery history: Their neutering surgery is routine, with a faster and easier recovery.
- Before neutering: They tend to mark their territory (by urinating) and have a stronger desire to roam and destroy.
♀️ Female cats:
- Personality: They are often more independent, thoughtful, and self-sufficient. They can bond very deeply, but like to be respected for their own space - they decide when it's time to pet them.
- Body type: They are more graceful, have finer bones, and are smaller.
- Surgery background: Spaying them requires abdominal surgery, so the recovery time is a little longer.
- Before spaying: Heat periods involve loud meowing and rubbing.
So, don't choose based on gender or color, but decide based on the kitten's personality which kitten you can live with! :)
💭Are Maine Coons good with children and other animals?
The short answer: yes, absolutely!
The Maine Coon was not given the nickname "gentle giant" by accident. Due to their nature, they are extremely friendly, curious, playful, patient and sociable, making them one of the most suitable breeds for family life, and an excellent choice for beginner cat owners, as they are easy to train! Many people also refer to them as a dog in cat's clothing.
But let's never forget that the training process should be done slowly, step by step, patiently, and the habituation by exchanging scents!
